DiSC is a behavioural model, based on the 1928 DISC emotional and behavioral theory of psychologist William Moulton Marston, that consists of four dimensions to help maximise the self-efficacy of individuals.

  • Dominance: These are individuals who mostly are risk takers, direct and challenge the norm. They are the natural leader of the group and usually take charge.
  • Influence: These are individuals who are most persuasive, motivating, and optimistic. They have a strong emphasis on building relationships.
  • Steadiness: These are individuals who are mostly quiet, good listeners, and easy-going. They are reliable and enjoy helping others.
  • Compliance: These are individuals who are primarily competent, precise, and analytical. They are good at gathering information and anchoring reality.

2. Know your work values

Work values are the guiding principles that help you make critical decisions. All of us have many values we hold dear in life. However, when making critical decisions that might impact us, we usually narrow it down to our top five values, such as integrity, reliability, family, growth, and so forth. Knowing what your core values allow you to find a job that would not compromise on those values.

3. Discover your interest or passion

By now, you would have realised that when you have an interest or passion in a particular area, you will always find ways to improve in it. Passion and interest drive people to do well in those areas. 5. Reflect on the skills you enjoy using

Using the card sort method, list down some of the skills you have under two categories: Transferable and burnout. Skills that are transferable are skills that you are willing to bring into your next job, while skills that burn out are skills that you do not enjoy. For example, if planning or administration is a burnout skill, leave that out of your resume. It is vital that you want to grow in skills that you enjoy, lest you land a job that develops the skills you do not want to grow in.
